On October 12 2008, fifty cyclists participated in a bike ride for Barack Obama. The group followed a typographic route spelling “Yes We Can” in the streets of Providence. "Yes We Can" elect Obama as our next president and "Yes We Can" support alternative forms of transportation. The ride went through the East Side, Downtown and the South Side uniting three distinct neighborhoods. The mayor, David Cicilline happened to be riding by and decided to ride with us. In the Southside, onlookers hollered in support from their porches.
Two weeks later, Jill Peterson led the second Bike Write spelling the word “Hope.” This ride covered neighborhoods not covered in the first ride. Several cyclists that were out riding recreationally that day decided to change their route and join us.
