Twice a month, discarded chairs, televisions, futons, exercise equipment, etc piles up on the street curbs of Providence. Some items seem in perfect working condition, while some appear in need of minor repair. Some look to be useful building materials for something else. Talking Trash was an installation throughout the Providence's East Side on Heavy Trash Pick-up Day. Through cardboard, hand-lettered speech bubbles we personified large trash items with messages such as “I wish you had not given up on me” or “I wish I could help build something.” The goal was to bring awareness to the citizens of Providence that re-use should be considered before abandonment.
